NORTHERN SALVOS

The River Scissura seems to spring up out of the rocky slopes themselves. Its journey of splitting the island neatly in two begins here in the north region, where any creature of Salvos would be hard-pressed to find a patch of flat terrain. Uneven coastline, plunging cliffs, jutting rock, and towering mountain hemlocks mark this end of our isle as the harshest contrast between land and sea. Pacific silver fir clumps together in rocky patches with the hemlocks and even some yellow cedar. Any who look out at the ocean on a clear day can spot tiny islands dotting the distant horizon – or are they merely a mirage of wishful thinking? Sure-footing is essential to survive in this rugged sector, as well as senses keen enough to pick out what may lurk just around the next bend.

EASTERN SALVOS

Nestled within the crook of the soft hillsides at Salvos’s center, the east settles into a majority of signature flatland. A golden tide of grassland and sand sprawls out as far as the eye can see in some areas and the whipping winds only emphasize the allusion to the open ocean. Any real shelter lingers on the inland perimeter of this place in the form of sparse treelines and grassy knolls, though their effectiveness in shielding against the most brutal island storms remains questionable. Still, the sprawling views leave prey easily spotted by hungry eyes, and the quick-footed can take advantage of ample warning to escape. The eastern corridor is honest in that way, concealing only the strike of the next storm and the tasty morsels beneath its sands.

SOUTHERN SALVOS

Where the southern winds curl heavy with sea-brine and the forest leans ever toward the water’s pull lies the exapnse of Southern Salvos, a wild, water-wrapped territory draped in mist and mystery. Here, the coastal Douglas-fir stands tall and crooked, its wind-battered boughs creaking like old timbers in the fog. Trees grow thick along ridgelines and soften into the waterlogged sprawl below, their roots clawing at rock and bog alike. A territory that is heavily populated by the watercourses briding out unto the vast expanse of the regions wake.

WESTERN SALVOS

Though trees dot nearly the entirety of the island, the western region boasts the thickest, lushest vegetation of Salvos. With cool summers and mild winters, it remains a reliable source of freshwater year-round. The Scissura wanders westward at a relatively steady flow depending on the season, carving its way through the terrain over centuries with bordering hills and crags on either side. The upper end of this region rises into jutting, forested hills and cliffs, and the lower edge settles into rolling greenery and rocky beaches. Some say it is the oldest piece of Salvos, the foliage so dense and established that the western hemlock and redcedar practically breathes with its own set of mossy lungs.
